What is the propose of this web page?

Our Web Page “Asteroid Belt” is proposed to inform our reader about what is the Asteroid Belt, where is situated and many other information about the Asteroid Belt. This page will also inform the readers about what are asteroid, comets, and meteors.

What is the Asteroid Belt?
The asteroid belt is a torus-shaped (doughnut-shaped) region in the Solar System located between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars. It contains many asteroids. The asteroid belt it's also known as the main asteroid belt or main belt so it can be distinguished from other asteroid populations in the Solar System, such as near-Earth asteroids and trojan asteroids. The asteroid belt is the smallest known circumstellar disc in our Solar System. About half its mass is contained the four largest asteroids which are Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea, in which Ceres is big enough to be a dwarf planet. Its total mass is approximatelt 4% that of the Moon. The remaining bodies range down to the size of a dust particle. The Asteroid Belt formed from the primordial solar nebula as a group of planetesimals.

Asteroids
An asteroid is a minor planet of the inner Solar System. Most of them are shattered remnants of planetesimals, bodies that never grew large enough to become planets. As minor planets in the outer Solar System were discovered that were found to have volatile-rich surfaces similar to comets, these came to be distinguished from the objects found in the main asteroid belt. Larger asteroids are often called planetoids.

Comets
A comet is an icy, small body in our Solar System that when it passes close to the Sum, it warms and begins to release gases, which is a process called outgassing. This creates a visible atmosphere (or coma) and sometimes a tail. This happens because of the effects of solar radiation and the solar wind acting upon the nucleus of the comet. The coma may be up to 15 time Earth's diameter, while the tail may stretch beyond one astronomical unit. Also, if sufficiently bright, a comet may be seen from Earth without the aid of a telescope.

Meteors
A meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body in outer space. Outer space is the expanse that exists beyond Erath and between celestial bodies. Meteoroids are smaller than asteroids. Its size range between small grains to one-meter-wide objects. When a meteoroid, a comet or an asteroid enters Earth's atmosphere at a speed typically of 72000 km/h (45000 mph), the heating of the object, produced by its high-speed passage trough air, creates a streak of light. This phenomenon is called a meteor or a shooting star. The meteors typically become visible when they are about 100 km above sea level.
